1949 - Born on the 25th of January in Wembley, in north-west London.
1970 - He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Birmingham.
1973 - He received his PhD from the University of East Anglia.
1984 - He joined the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) in UK London.
1993 - He returned to the ICRF as Director of Research.
1995 - He received a Royal Medal and became a foreign associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
1998 - He received the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research.
2002 - He was awarded the French Legion d'Honneur.
2005 - He was also awarded the Copley Medal by the Royal Society of London.
2006 - He was elected a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
