1905 - Barnett Newman, born on the 29th of January in New York City, New York, USA. He was an American artist. He is seen as one of the major figures in abstract expressionism and one of the foremost of the color field painters.

1922 - 1926 - He studied at the Art Students League.

1927 - 1937 - Joined his father's clothing manufacturing business.

1944 - He lived in New York City, and began his series of cosmic landscapes using stripes, circles, and colour divisions.

1947 - Made the ‘Genetic Moment’.

       - He was one of the founders, along with William Baziotes, Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell, of an art school, Subjects of the Artist, New York.

1948 - A leader of colour-field painting, as seen in ‘Onement I’.

1967 - He stressed the use of colour and mythology. His sculptures have a classical composure, as in ‘Broken Obelisk’.

1970 - Died in New York City of a heart attack on the 4th of July.
