1864 - Born on the 5th of November in Detroit, Michigan.

1885 - He became superintendent of construction, paymaster, general freight and passenger agent.

1893 - He helped organize the Michigan State Naval Brigade.

1898 - He served on the U.S.S. Yosemite during the  Spanish American War.
 
1902 - He helped organize the Packard Motor Car Company.

1905 - He served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

1908 - He served as the Secretary of Navy.

1909 - He became lieutenant commander United States Navy Fleet Reserve.

1919 - He was a U.S Senator from Michigan.

         - He was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate.

1945 - He died on the 3rd of October in Groosse  Pointe, Michigan.
