1520-1522 - He was sent to Mexico by Diego Velasquez to arrest Hernando Cortez, but defeated by Cortez near Veracruz and kept prisoner.

1526 - He was granted the land of Florida by the Emperor Charles V.

1528 - Died on his expedition to Florida in Gulf of Mexico.
