1906 – Born on the 10th of October in Chennai, India.

1935 – He started working for  his first Novel.

1956 – He went abroad to the United States at the invitation of the Rockeffeler Foundation.

       – He began his literary career with short stories.

1958 – He won the National Prize of the Sahitya Akademi.

1964 – He was honored with the Padma  Bhushan a coveted Indian award, for distinguished service

                 to literature.

1980 – He was awarded the AC Benson Medal by the Royal Society  of Literature.

1982 – He was elected an honorary member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.

2000 – He was awarded by Padma Vibhushan.

2001 – He died on the 13th of May, Due to Cardio-Respiratory Failure.
