1917 - Born on the 28th of June in Fargo, North Dakota U.S.A.

1939 - He graduated in University of Minnesota from which he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

1948 - He received a Ph.D degree in University of Minnesota.

1945 - He became a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota.      

         - He served as a commissioner of administration under Governor Orville L. Freeman (Governor of Minnesota).

1961 - He won the first of his four 2-year terms as Mayor in Minnesota.

1971 - He became the Professor in the Department of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.     

         - He joined the Board of Directors of the Citizens League, and served as President of the Board.

1980 - He also produced, wrote, and narrated a series of one-hour television documentaries about

            former Minnesota Governors.

2005 - On 16th of May he struck his head in a fall, he went into a coma and died later in the day at

             Abbott Northwestern Hospital  in  Minneapolis. His body was donated to the University of

             Minnesota for research.
