1971 - Midori Goto, is a violinist born on the 25th of October in Osaka, Japan. She is usually referred to simply as "Midori" She was first taught the violin by her mother, Setsu Goto, who discovered her daughter's innate musicality at the age of two, when she found Midori humming a Bach theme she had rehearsed a few days earlier. Her brother, Ryu Goto, is also a concert violinist.
1974 - She fell in love with the violin at the early age of 3 and immediately began taking lessons. She studied and practiced daily with her mother, an accomplished violinist.
1977 - At the young age of six she made her concert debut in her native Osaka, Japan.
1982 - She and Setsu left for New York and that same year she was the surprise performer at the New York Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concert.
1988 - Received the Japanese Government Best Artist of the Year.
1990 - Received The Los Angeles Music Center's Dorothy B. Chandler Performing Arts Award.
1991 - Received the New York State's Asian-American Heritage Month Award.
1992 - Established the Midori & Friends Foundation to assist educators teach music in public schools
1994 - Received the Suntory Hall Award.
1995 - Japan's Crystal Award for her contribution to the arts; Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Spirit of the City award.
1998 - Was awarded the Americans for the Arts, the National Arts Award and the Business Council, Inc. the Encore Award.
2000 - Graduated from New York University`s Gallatin School magna cum laude where she studied Psychology; subsequently earning a Master's Degree in Psychology from NYU a few years later.
2001 - She received the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, an award issued to outstanding musicians only once a year, if at all. With the award money, she started a foundation program called Partners in Performance.
