1907 - Born on June 11th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvannia. American philanthropist and museum administrator.

1935 - Married to Mary Conover Brown.

1948 - Married to Rachel Lambert Llyod.

1963 - He was the president of National Gallery of Art.

1966 - Mellon donated $35M in artwork plus $12M to Yale University, forming the Yale Center for British Art.

         - Founded the Bollingen Foundation, which awards the Bollingen Prize in Poetry.

1979 - Was the chairman of National Gallery of Art.

1992 - Co-wrote Reflections in a Silver Spoon: A Memoir.

1999 - Died on February 1st in Upperville, Virginia.
