1930 - Frank McCourt was born on August 19th in Brooklyn, New York, to Irish immigrant parents.

1923 - After quitting school at 13, Frank McCourt alternated between odd jobs and petty crime in an effort to feed himself, his mother, and four surviving brothers and sisters.

1929 - At 19, he returned to the United States and worked at odd jobs until he was drafted into the United States Army at the onset of the Korean War.

1967 - He received his M.A. in English at Brooklyn College.

1996 - He was the author of the book "Angela's Ashes: A Memoir".

         - He received the Pulitzer Prize for Biography for "Angela's Ashes".

1999 - His voice can be heard in "New York: A Documentary Film".

         - He wrote "Tis:A Memoir". His second book 'Tis picks up the story of his life where Angela's Ashes left off, with his arrival in America at age 19. It shot to the top of the best-seller lists as soon as it was published.

2005 - He wrote "Teacher Man: A Memoir".
