Mayor Zaragoza, Federico
1934 - Born in Barcelona. Federico Mayor Zaragoza is a biochemist, the President and promoter of the Fundación para una Cultura de Paz (Foundation for a Culture of Peace) and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
1974 - Was a Professor of Biochemistry before he moved into Government.
1987 - He became the Director-General of UNESCO.
1998 - Declared an ‘Illustrious Guest of Quito’.
- Awarded with the Medal of the Republic of Egypt.
1999 - Retired to create his Foundation for a Culture of Peace.
- Received the Peace Prize granted by the Association for the United Nations in Spain; the Khalil Gibran ‘Spirit of Humanity’ Peace Award and Simón Peres Peace Award.
2001 - Recipient of the Portapaz Award.
