1885 – Born on October 11th in Bordeaux, France. French novelist, essayist, poet, playwright, journalist, and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

1906 – He studied at the University of Bordeaux and entered the École Nationale des Chartes at Paris, soon deserting it to write.

1933 – Mauriac was elected to the French Academy.

1937-1945 – Wrote the plays: Asmodé and Les Mal Aimés.

1952 – Received Nobel Prize for literature.

1964 – He wrote the poetry: Les Mains Jointes; and the novels: L’Enfant Chargé de Chaînes, La Robe Prétexte, Le Baiser au Lépreux, Désert de l’Amour, Thérèse Desqueyrou, Dieu et Mammon, Le Noeud de Vipère, Le Mystère Frontenac, Le Romancier et ses Personnages, Journal, Les Chemins de la Mer and La Pharisienne.

1970 – Died on September 1st in Paris, France.
