Martin, Joseph (Fighting Joe)
1852 - Born on September 24th. A Canadian lawyer and politician. Also known as "Fighting Joe".
1883 - He was elected to the Manitoba legislature and served as Attorney-General in the government.
1888 - Became attorney general in the Greenway government.
- He sponsored the legislation that ended public support for separate schools in Manitoba.
1893-1896 - He sat in the House of Commons and then moved to Vancouver.
1907 - He was the founder the Vancouver Guardian newspaper.
1923 - Died from diabetes on March 2nd and was the first person in Vancouver to be treated with insulin.
