1960 - Born on the 26th of August in Breaux Bridge.

1980 - He began his professional career playing with Art Blakey's big band, Clark Terry, and Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

1982 - He played with his brother Wynton's group, then left to play in Sting's backup band.

1985 - He appeared at Live Aid as Sting's only accompaniment and later joined by Phil Collins.

         - He joined a backing band for rock star Sting on recording the album The Dream of the Blue Turtles

1986 - He set up his own group.

1992 - He signed on as bandleader for Jay Leno's version of The Tonight Show.

1995 - He was musical director of the Tonight Show Band.

2005 - He announced on the 6th of December, plans for a Musicians' Village in New Orleans.
