Mandelbrot, Benoit B.
1924 - Benoît B. Mandelbrot, born on the 20th of November in Poland. He is a Franco-American mathematician, best known as the "father of fractal geometry".
1944 - Graduated in Ecole Polytechnique.
1948 - Received M. S. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology.
1952 - Graduated and Received Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Paris.
1949 - 1957 - Was a staff member at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS).
1955 - 1957 - Professor of mathematics in Geneva.
1957 - 1958 - Professor at the École Polytechnique.
1958 - Moved to the United States where Mandelbrot joined the research staff at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York.
- He remained at IBM for thirty-two years, becoming an IBM Fellow, and later Fellow Emeritus.
1985 - Received a Barnard Medal for Meritorious Service to Science.
1986 - Awarded by Franklin Medal for Signal and Eminent Service in Science.
1987 - Professor of mathematics at Yale University.
