Macapagal Arroyo, Gloria
1947 - Born on the 5th of April in Lubao, Pampanga, Philippines.
1968 - She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Assumption College as a Magna Cum Laude.
1978 - She pursued a Master's Degree in Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University Philippines.
1985 - She received Doctorate Degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines.
1987 - She was invited by President Corazon Aquino to join the
government as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry.
1992 - She became a Senator in the Philippines.
1995 - She was re-elected as a Senator of the Philippines topping the senatorial election with nearly
16 million votes, the highest number of votes received by any politician for any position
in Philippine electoral history. 1998 - She became the Vice-President of the Philippines.
- She was appointed as a Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development
appointed by President Joseph Estrada.
2000 - She resigned from the cabinet, distancing herself from then President Estrada, who was
accused of corruption.
2001 - On the 20th of January she was sworn as the 14th president of the Philippines by Supreme
Court Justice Hilario Davide.
2004 - She was reelected as President of the Philippines. She is still the President of the Philippines
up to this day.
