1826 - Born on July 24th in Asuncion. The dictator of Paraguay responsible for the Paraguayan War (also known as the War of the Triple Alliance), in which Paraguay was practically destroyed by Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.

1844 - His father raised him to inherit his mantle and made him a brigadier general at the age of eighteen.

1862 - Solano Lopez consolidated his power after his father's death by silencing several hundred critics and would-be reformers through imprisonment.

         - He became the president of Paraguay.

1870 - Died on March 1st.
