1813 - He was born on the 19th of March in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

 

1840 - She worked in Bechuanaland (now Botswana), but was unable to make inroads into South Africa because of Boer opposition.

 

1845 - He married Mary Moffat, daughter of Robert Moffat.

 

1852–1856 - He explored the African interior, and was the first European to see the Mosi-oa.

 

1858-1864 - He was appointed leader for the Zambezi Expedition.
