1813 – He was born on the 19th of March in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
1840 – She worked in Bechuanaland (now Botswana), but was unable to make inroads into South Africa because of Boer opposition.
1845 – He married Mary Moffat, daughter of Robert Moffat.
1852–1856 – He explored the African interior, and was the first European to see the Mosi-oa.
