David Losh (Lewis David)
1909 - Born in the town of Svisloch, Russia on the 23rd of June.
1921 - He and his family emigrated to Montreal where he grew up and attended McGill University.
1936-1950 - He was national secretary of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation.
1940-1949 - He ran for the Canadian House of Commons in 1940, 1943, 1945 and 1949 but was defeated on each occasion.
1962-1974 - Elected as a Member of Parliament.
1971 - He ran to succeed retiring NDP leader Tommy Douglas, and won the leadership convention.
1972 - He led the NDP through the federal election in which he uttered his best known quotation calling Canadian corporations "corporate welfare bums".
1974 - He lost his seat in Parliament, leading him to resign as party leader.
1981 - Died on the 23rd of May.
