1923 - Lee Kuan Yew, born on the 16th of September in Singapore City.

1950 - He and his wife Kwa Geok Choo were married on the 30th of September. They have two sons and one daughter.

1951 - He studied law at Cambridge and qualified as a barrister in London before returning to Singapore to practise.

1954 - He founded the moderate, anti-Communist People's Action Party.

1955 - Entered the Singapore Legislative Assembly.

1959 - 1990 - He is a Singaporean statesman and prime minister.

1959 - He became the country's first prime minister, remained in power for 31 years, and oversaw a successful programme of economic development.

1990 - He resigned as premier, but remained in the government as senior minister in the premier's office.

1994 - He proposed to link the salaries of ministers, judges, and top civil servants to the salaries of top professionals in the private sector, arguing that this would help recruit and retain talents to serve in the public sector.
