1902 - Born on the 2nd of December in Sagua La Grande, Villa Clara Province.
1923 - He went to Madrid in order to further his art studies.
1929-1931 - He married Eva Piriz but both she and their young son died.
- He was in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War, during which he sided with the Republic.
1937 - He went to Paris and became close friends with Pablo Picasso.
1940 - He left Paris and went to Marseille.
1941-1946 - He returned to Cuba and stayed.
- He married Helena Holzer. He then lived in various places including Paris, New York and Havana.
1950 - They were divorced.
1960 - He married Lou Laurin with whom he had three children.
1982 - Died on the 11th of September in Paris.
