1956 – An American playwright was born on the 16th day of July this year in Manhattan.

 

1974 - Kushner moved to New York in this year to begin his undergraduate college education at Columbia University, where he completed a B.A. in English literature in 1978.

 

1984 - He studied directing at New York University's Graduate School, from which he graduated in this year.

 

2003 – He and his long-time partner, Entertainment Weekly editor Mark Harris, had a wedding ceremony in New York. Theirs was the first same-sex marriage ever covered by The New York Times's "Vows" column.

 

2005 - He is co-author of, along with Eric Roth, the screenplay of the film Munich, which was directed by Steven Spielberg and earned Kushner (along with Roth) an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

 

2006 – A documentary feature about Kushner entitled “Wrestling with Angels” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival under the direction of Freida Lee Mock.
