1927 - Born on April 27th in Marion, Alabama. An American civil rights activist who was the wife of Martin Luther King, Jr.

1951 - Coretta Scott graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and enrolled at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
1953 - Married Martin Luther King, Jr. and had four children.
1955-1964 - Coretta Scott King joined her husband in civil rights activism, taking part in the Montgomery bus boycott and efforts to pass the Civil Rights Act.
1968 - Following the assassination of her husband and the conviction of James Earl Ray for the murder, she continued to be active in the civil rights movement.
1969 - She wrote a memoir, "My Life with Martin Luther King, Jr.".
- Established an annual Coretta Scott King Award to honour an African American author of an outstanding text for children.
1979 - Established an annual Coretta Scott King Award to honour an outstanding African American illustrator.
