1949 – She was born on the 25th day of May this year as Elaine Potter Richardson on the island of Antigua.
1965 - She was sent to Westchester, New York to work as an au pair.
1967 – She completed her secondary education in Antigua under the British system due to Antigua's status as a British colony until this year.
1973 – She went on to study photography at the New York School for Social Research after leaving the family for which she worked .She changed her name to Jamaica Kincaid because her family disapproved of her writing.
1976 – She became a regular contributor to the New Yorker magazine, writing for nearly twenty years, before the arrival of new management convinced her to leave.
2001 – “Talk Stories” is one of her latest work, she now resides in Bennington Vermont with her husband and children.
