1958 - He was born in Athens, Greece. Robert Kagan is senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, transatlantic fellow at the German Marshall Fund, and a columnist for The Washington Post.

         - He married to Victoria Nuland, currently the U.S. ambassador to NATO.  They live in Brussels and have two children, Elena and David.

1983 - He worked as an adviser to Congressman Jack Kemp, which he left to join the Reagan administration as one of several speech writers for Secretary of State George Shultz.

1984-1988 - He served in the U.S. State Department as a member of the Policy Planning Staff, as a principal speech writer for Secretary of State George P. Shultz, and as deputy for policy in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs.  

2003-2006 - Wrote the books Of Paradise and Power: America and Europe in the New World Order and Dangerous Nation: America's Place in the World from Its Earliest Days to the Dawn of the Twentieth Century.
