1919 - Born on June 19th in Petaluma, California. American film critic.

1966 - She was fired from McCall's magazine for panning The Sound of Music in her film review column for the magazine.

1967 - Her first piece of film criticism for "The New Yorker" was a glowing review of Bonnie and Clyde, written at a time when several critics were panning the film.

1968 - Was a movie critic for "The New Yorker".

1970 - Recipient of the George Polk Award.

1977 - Member of jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

1982 - Wrote critical works "I Lost It at the Movies", "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", "Going Steady", "Deeper into Movies", "Reeling", "When the Lights Go Down" and "5001 Nights at the Movies".

2001 - Died on September 3rd in Great Barrington, Massachusetts of Parkinson's disease.
