1856 - Edward David Jones, a U.S Statistician, was born. He was the co-developer and co-eponym of the Dow Jones Index.

 

1882 - Founded the Dow Jones and company, together with three reporters Charles Dow and Charles Bergstresser. Like the New York Times and Washington Post, the company was publicly traded but privately controlled. The company is led by the Bancroft family.
