1502 - John III was born at Lisbon, Portugal on the 6th of June to King Manuel I and Queen Maria of 1502 - John III was born at Lisbon, Portugal on the 6th of June to King Manuel I and Queen Maria of Aragon.

1503 - He was sworn heir to his father's throne.

1514 - He was given his own house and after a few years, began helping his father in administrative duties.

1518 - At the age of 16, he was chosen to marry  his first cousin Eleanor of Habsburg, 20 years of age. But instead she chose to marry King Manuel I, John's widowed father. This event made him melancholic.

1521 - At the age 19, he succeeded his father and was crowned king in the Church of Saint Dominique in Lisbon.

1524 - Married Catherine, sister to the Emperor Charles V.

1536 - The Portuguese Inquisition was introduced into Portugal by John as he was able to sufficiently bribe the Papacy.

1541 - John III decided to abandon Safim and Azamor.

1543 - During his reign, the Portuguese was able to arrive at Japan

1549 - John III abandons Arzila and Alcacer Ceguer. On the 7th of August, he declared that every male subject between 20 to 65 years of age be recruitable.

1557 - Died of apoplexy on the 6th of June in Lisbon Portugal.
