1944 – She was born on the 30th day of August this year in Houston, Texas.
1966 - She matriculated to Smith College, earning a BA this year.
1970 – She left the Tribune to write for the Texas Observer from this year to 1976.
1982 - She then wrote for the Dallas Times Herald from 1982 until the paper's demise in 1992.
1999 – She was diagnosed with stage III inflammatory breast cancer.
2003 – Her cancer recurred in 2003 and again in late 2005.
2006 – She reported that she was again undergoing chemotherapy.
2007 – She died at her Austin, Texas home in hospice care on January 31st of this year, at age 62.
