1858 – Mayor of Seguin, Texas.

1861 – A delegate to Texas secession convention.

1866 – Colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and a delegate to Texas state constitutional convention.

         – The district judge in Texas.

1875 – Member of Texas state house of representatives; member of Texas state senate and justice of Texas state supreme court.

1878 – A candidate for U.S. Representative from Texas.

1883 – Appointed as Governor of Texas.

1896 – He died on March 5th and was burried at Texas State Cemetery, Austin, Texas.
