1897 - John B. Hynes was born.

1946 - He was city clerk of Boston under James Michael Curley during Curley.

1947 - Curley was serving five months in prison in 1947 for official misconduct, Hynes served as acting mayor.

1949 - Hynes decided to challenge Curley in the election and defeated him.

1951 - Because of a change to the mayoral election system, the next election was held and Hynes again defeated Curley.

1955-1960 - Hynes defeated Curley a third time and went on to serve as mayor.

1970 - John B. Hynes died.
