1816 – He was born on the 16th day of October this yer in New York City, New York, USA.

 

1835 – He studied with SFB Morse, and produced "A Bar-Room Politician" and "A Toper Asleep." Subsequently he painted some landscapes on the Hudson River, and in 1839 went back to Rome.

 

1844 - On his return to America he painted portraits and began the illustration of The Pilgrim's Progress, but his vision failed, and in this year went back to Rome.

 

1846 - Returning to New York around this year, he dedicated his time mostly to portrait-painting, even though he has painted many sort, religious and historical subjects

 

1862 - He was president of the National Academy from this year to 1870, and again in 1877 until 1890.

 

1906 – He passed away on the 19th day of April This year.
