1907 – Irene Hunt, born on the 18th of May in Pontiac, Illinois. She was an American author of historical fiction for children and young adults.

1939 – She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

1946 – Earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Minnesota.

1964 – Her writing career began with the publication of Across Five Aprils, a Civil War era novel that earned her a Newbery Honor citation, as well as several other awards.

1967 – Her next novel, Up a Road Slowly, won the Newbery Medal.

2001 – Died on the 18th of May on her 94th birthday.
