1936 - Born on the 28th of June in Wheeling, West Virginia.

 

1957 - While attending West Virginia University and playing football for the West Virginia Mountaineers, he was a 3-time All-Southern Conference selection and was the Southern Conference Player of the Year.

 

1958 - Drafted out of West Virginia University by the Chicago Bears in the first round.

 

1959 - Played for the Bears for two seasons before retiring after what appeared to be a career-ending knee injury.

 

1961 - Decided to make a comeback following a West Virginia alumni game.

 

1963 - The Bears traded his rights to the Dallas Cowboys for two future draft picks.

 

1976 - He was inducted into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium, the fourth player to receive that honor.
