1536 - Born on the 14th of December.

 

1563 - He married Katherine Carey.

 

1569 - He helped suppress a rebellion of the Roman Catholic lords of northern England.

 

1573 - He succeeded to his father's title of Lord Howard of Effingham.

 

1585 - Became lord high admiral.

 

1596 - Howard and Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, commanded the expedition that sacked Cádiz, Spain.

 

1597 - The queen made Howard earl of Nottingham.

 

1599 - He was given the exceptional office of lord lieutenant general of England.

 

1601 - He helped put down Essex's uprising against Elizabeth and served as a commissioner at Essex's trial.

 

1624 - Died in near Croydon, Surrey, England on the 14th of December.
