1939 - She opened the new Greenwich Village club Cafe Society on January.

 

 

1941 - Married trombonist Jimmy Monroe on the 25th of August.

 

 

1943 - Voted as the best jazz Vocalist in the Esquire magazines readers poll.

 

 

1945 - Holiday married trumpet player Joe Guy, and together they ran a band that later lost large sums of money.

 

 

1952 - Married Mafia "enforcer", Louis McKay on the 28th of March.

 

 

1959 - She was taken in Metropolitan Hospital in New York suffering from liver and heart disease on the 31st of May

 

- Died on the 15th of July in a hospital bed where she had been under house arrest since 12th of June for possession of narcotics. She had a $750 taped on her leg, an advance for a magazine for a series of articles about her life.
