1760 - Born in Edo on the 23rd day of 9th month of the 10th year of the period Horeki.
1778 - He became a student of the leading ukiyo-e master, Katsukawa Shunsho.
1795 - He was expelled from the school regardless, Hokusai changed his nom d'artiste to ShunrM.
1798 - He passed his name on to a pupil and set out as an independent artist for the first time, adopting the name Hokusai Tomisa.
1811 - At the age of 51, Hokusai changed his name to Taito and entered the period in which he would create the Hokusai Manga and various etehon, or art manuals.
1820 - He changed his named yet again, this time to Iitsu, a change which would mark the start of a period in which Hokusai would secure fame as an artist in Japan and overseas.
1834 - He work under the name GakyM RMjin Manji . It was at this time that Hokusai produced "One Hundred View of Mount Fuji," another significant landscape series.
1849 - He died on 18th of April, and was buried at the SeikyMji temple in Tokyo
