1924 - Charlton Heston original name  John Charlton Carter
born on the 4th of October in Evanston, Illinois, U.S. American actor, known for his chiseled features and compelling speaking voice and for his numerous roles as historical figures and famous literary characters.

1946 - 1947 - He moved to New York City and he made his Broadway debut in Antony and Cleopatra.

1950 - His first Hollywood film was Dark City.

1952 - Cecil B. DeMille, cast him as the circus manager in The Greatest Show on Earth. The film won the Oscar for best picture of the year, and Heston received good notices for his performance.

1953 - He next starred as Andrew Jackson in The President's Lady, the first of many historical roles he would undertake.

1956 - He played the role for which he would remain best-known, that of Moses in DeMille's The Ten Commandments.

1958 - 1959 - He worked for several other noted directors, including Orson Welles in Touch of Evil and William Wyler in Ben-Hur. Ben-Hur won 11 Academy Awards, including a best actor award for Heston; the film secured his position as the premiere historical character actor in Hollywood.

1966 - 1971 - He also involved himself in politics in and out of Hollywood, serving as president of the Screen Actors Guild

1968 - He starred in the western Will Penny, a role that he counted among his favourites, and in Planet of the Apes, the first in a short series of science-fiction films for the actor.

1970 - 1973 - He twice played Mark Antony, in Julius Caesar and in Antony and Cleopatra, which he also directed.

1973 - 1983 - Chairman of the American Film Institute.

1998 - 2003 - President of the National Rifle Association.
