1967 - He co-wrote screenplays "The Graduate", "The Owl and the Pussycat", "Protocol", "To Die For" and "Catch-22", "The Day of the Dolphin".

1970 - He starred in movies "Catch-22" (as Colonel Korn), "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (as Oliver Farnsworth), "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" (as Dr. Dreyfus), "Grumpy Old Men" (as Snyder) and "Short Cuts" (as Gordon Johnson).

         - He co-directed movie "Heaven Can Wait" and directed movie "First Family".

2004 - Elected to be the Guest Director for the 31st annual Telluride Film Festival.
