1920 - Born on July 4th in Marbletown, New York. American hotel manager.

1938 - Married to Leo E. Panzier.

         - Hemsley renamed herself Leona Roberts and went to work as a receptionist for a real estate company.

1970 - Harry Helmsley hired Leona as a senior vice-president with a $500,000 salary.

1972 - Married to multi-millionaire, Harry Helmsley.

1980 - Haryy made her president of Helmsley Hotels, a subsidiary which at the time operated more than two dozen hotels in 10 states, including the Park Lane, St. Moritz and Palace in New York and the Harley Hotels.

1989 - She was convicted and fined $7.1 million for tax evasion.

1997 - Her husband, Harry Helmsley, who was too senile to stand trial, died at age 87.

2002 - A former employee claimed he was fired by Leona Helmsley because he was homosexual. The jury originally awarded Charles Bell $11.7 million, but a judge reduced the award to $554,000.

2007 - Died of heart failure at her summer house on August 20th in Greenwich, Connecticut.

         - Forbes magazine ranked her as the 369th richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion.
