1901 - Jascha Heifetz, born on the 2nd of February in Wilno, Poland, Russian Empire, now Vilnius, Lithuania. He was a Lithuanian-born American violin virtuoso, and is thought to be one of the greatest interpreters of the instrument.
1906 - His first professional appearance was at age five, during which he gave his first concert, then at St. Petersburg.
1906 - 1910 - He was educated at the Royal School of Music in Vilna, which he entered at five and from which he graduated at nine.
1910 - He entered the St Petersburg conservatory to study under Leopold Auer.
1917 - He came to the USA.
1925 - Became a citizen.
1928 - Married to the silent motion picture actress Florence Vidor, ex-wife of King Vidor, whose seven year old daughter, Suzanne, he adopted.
1937 - Joined ASCAP.
1987 - He died Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on the 10th of December.
1989 - Received a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
