1894 - Born on the 28th of February.

1921 - He was sentenced to death by hanging and was executed on the 19th of March.

1926 - He received a telegram from friend Herman J. Mankiewicz, who had recently arrived in Los Angeles.

1927 - Hecht eventually moved to Hollywood, where he scripted Josef von Sternberg's gangster story Underworld, and won an Oscar for his work at the first Academy Awards presentation.

1950 - Hecht had an early talk show on television in the New York metropolitan area.

1953 - He wrote the book for the Broadway musical Hazel Flagg.

1964 - Died on the 18th of April.
