Governor of Ohio 1868-1872, 1876-1877.


1877-1881 – He 19th president of US.


Withdrew last federal troops from South, effectively ending Reconstruction Era.


1878 – Vetoed Bland-Allison Act (nevertheless passed over Hayes’ veto).


1st US president to have a presidential library (established 1912 in Fremont, Ohio).
