1854 - Born on the 1st of July.

1880 - He graduated at Harvard College, studied at Paris, Berlin and Freiburg.

1883 - He received the degree of Ph.D. at Freiburg.

         - He was instructor in history at Harvard.

1887 - Assistant professor.

1892 - Hart authored the book Formation of the Union.

1897 - Became professor.

         - He was an editor of the Harvard Graduates' Magazine.

1899 - Samuel Portland Chase.

1905 - Essentials of American History.

1906 - Slavery and Abolition.

1909 - Professor Hart was president of the American Historical Association.

         - He played an important role in enabling his former student, W.E.B. Du Bois, to deliver his paper Reconstruction and Its Benefits to the AHA in New York.

1912 - The American Political Science Association.

1914 - He was appointed exchange professor at the University of Berlin.

1926 - Hart was editor of the American Year Book.

1927 - He edited a five-volume history of Massachusetts.

1930 - Worked as the official historian of the George Washington bicentennial commission.

1931 - Hart presented a rough draft of the cyclopedia to Hagedorn.

1943 - Died on the 16th of July.
