1954 - Born in Miami, Florida, Hardwick studied horticulture at the University of Florida and worked in Atlanta, Georgia, as a bartender at a gay bar.

1982 - He was arrested in Georgia for consensual sodomy.

1986 - Unsuccessful litigant in Supreme Court case Bowers vs. Hardwick.

         - His experience as the victim of a hate crime and his frustration at the Court's decision led him to speak out at political gatherings and on national television programs.

1991 - Died on June 13th in Gainsville, Florida of complications of AIDS virus.
