Guisewite, Cathy Lee
1950 - Born on September 5th in Dayton, Ohio. Cathy Guisewite was an ad writer who moved up the ladder fast.
1972 - Graduated from the University of Michigan.
1976-1977 - Cathy Guisewite became the first woman to break the Cathy Guisewite "paper ceiling" of the comic pages when she introduced Cathy, the first widely syndicated humor strip by a female cartoonist.
- Five years after graduating from the University of Michigan, she was named vice president at W.B. Doner & Co., one of America's largest independent agencies.
- Her comics were syndicated as Cathy, and Guisewite quit the advertising business the year after.
- Cathy was one of the first mainstream comics about and written by a woman. It plays off (and into) gender stereotypes, poking fun at the main character's obsession with her weight, mom, food, clothes, and boyfriends.
1987 - Received a special Emmy award.
1992 - Received the Reuben Award.
1997 - Married to Chris Wilkinson.
