Gruber, Karl
1909 - Born on May 3rd in Innsbruck. Austrian politician and diplomat who served as foreign minister in the years immediately following World War II.
1945 - Became the Landeshauptmann of Tirol. Gruber was in the first instance appointed Head of the Provincial Government of Tyrol.
- He had been a leading member of the resistance movement that made it possible for Innsbruck to be handed over to the Americans already liberated from National Socialism at the beginning of May.
- He switched to the Provisional Government as a representative of the western province, and was appointed Under Secretary of State.
1953 - Appointed as the Foreign Minister of Austria but was forced to resign because of the way he described a domestic political scandal that had taken place.
1954 - He was ambassador to the USA.
1958 - He was a Special Adviser at the International Atomic Energy Agency.
1961 - He was ambassador in Madrid.
1966 - He was ambassador in Bonn.
1972 - He returned to Washington as ambassador.
- He was in Bern as ambassador.
1995 - Died on February 1st in Innsbruck.
