1847 – Dr. Hans Gross was born on December 12th in Graz, as Johann Baptist Gustav Gross, was one of the earliest forensic scientists of modern record.
– Dr. Gross is also widely regarded as the grandfather of modern criminalistics.
1893 – In his ground-breaking text, System Der Kriminalistik (aka Criminal Investigation) was published, he is widely credited with coining the term "criminalistics".
1891 – Hans Gross was the examining magistrate and professor of criminal law at the University of Graz, Austria, published Criminal Investigation, the first comprehensive description of uses of physical evidence in solving crime. Gross is also sometimes credited with coining the word criminalistics.
1898 – Wrote the book, Kriminalpsychologie (Criminal Psychology).
1901 – Wrote the book, Enzyklopädie der Kriminalistik (Encyclopedia of Criminology).
1915 – Died on December 9th in Graz.
