1897 - Born on December 3rd in New York City. American cartoonist and painter.
1919 - Employed as cartoonist by the New York Tribune, he went to work for the Rebel Worker.
1920-1929 - He became a leading painter of the 1920s and 30s, his works being primarily concerned with social responsibilities and class inequalities.
1930 - Gropper received a Guggenheim Fellowship to travel to the Midwest and make studies for a series of paintings on the Dust Bowl.
1944 - He was awarded first prize for lithography in the Artists for Victory exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
1968 - He was elected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.
1971-1972 - His last major exhibition of drawings traveled throughout the U.S.
1977 - He was a resident of Great Neck, New York, at the time of his death on January 6th.
