1938 - Phillip Griffiths was born as a American mathematician.

         - He was a major developer in particular of the theory of variation of Hodge structure in Hodge theory and moduli theory.

1962 - He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University.

1962-1967 - Working under Donald Spencer and since then has held positions at Berkeley.

1972-1983 - Harvard University.

1983-1991 - Duke University.

1991 - Institute for Advanced Study.

2003 - He was Director in the Institute for Advanced Study.

         - He has published on algebraic geometry, differential geometry, geometric function theory, and the geometry of partial differential equations.
