1936 – He was born on the 27th day of May this year in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School, where he was class president and an academic and athletic achiever. A sports injury left him with no choice, so he takes an acting class.
1952 – At age 16, he made his stage debut in the school's production of You Can’t Take It with You. After high school, he attended New York University, where he was a star basketball player.
1961 - He took a big step into the world of cinema in the Sidney Poitier vehicle A Raisin in the Sun in this year.
1977 – He won Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Single Appearance in Drama or Comedy Series for the film “Roots”.
1982 – He won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Award for his movie “An Officer and a Gentleman”.
1983 – He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “An Officer and a Gentleman”.
1998 – He won again in Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Special for his performance “In his Father’s Shoes”.
